What's New for 2013?
Maine Medical Partners Kidney Stone Program
The Maine Medical Partners Kidney Stone Program will open in January, 2013. This multidisciplinary center will be under the direction of Dr. Eric Taylor, division of nephrology faculty member and nationally renowned stone disease expert. Participation by Urology, Pediatric Nephrology, Endocrinology, and Nutrition will allow rich discussion and collaboration. Nephrology fellows will have the option for focused elective experience in this area and new research opportunities.
MMC/Veteran’s Administration Educational Partnership
The fellowship program has received approval for an educational relationship with the Togus V.A. Division of Nephrology under the direction of Dr. Nash Purohit. Our fellows will rotate for one month each year to this facility for a blended experience of ambulatory care, dialysis rounds, and inpatient consultation. This rotation will allow access to a different patient population and provider styles, as well as exposure to innovative palliative care initiatives. The experience will mimic the varied workday of the practicing nephrologist. This opportunity will allow expansion of the fellowship program to 5 fellows.
An Additional Fellowship Position!
As a consequence of our new V.A. relationship, we are expanding to 5 fellows. We will accept 3 entering fellows and 2 entering fellows on alternating years. In the current match cycle, we are interviewing for 3 fellows. Our 10-member faculty, outstanding clinical programs, and high volume inpatient and ambulatory services will continue to provide superb training for a group of trainees of this number!
