The search for new knowledge and new ways
to provide care has special meaning at Maine Medical
Center. Our focus here is on research that has direct
impact on patient care, and on more basic research that
lays the groundwork for clinical advances. Our emphasis
is on cancer, cardiology, and bone and mineral disease,
with other important areas supported as funding allows.
The Maine Medical Center Research
Institute has attained status not only as a
center for biomedical research but as a catalyst for
economic and academic growth in the region. An active
research program is a direct benefit to our patients,
bringing leading-edge treatments to Maine.
While much is carried
out at the Research Institute in the neighboring
town of Scarborough, clinical departments within Maine
Medical Center also have research programs. For example,
MMC's Emergency Department has an award-winning research
division, which gives medical students a unique
opportunity to develop tools for life-long learning, an
understanding of how to use medical research and basic
research concepts, an awareness of the importance of
information management in healthcare, and the
application of evidence-based medicine. Click here to learn more

program.
