Childbirth Education

Because babies don't come with instruction manuals....

We offer a variety of childbirth classes taught by registered nurses from our Maternity Unit.  Our classes reflect Miles' dedication to family-centered maternity care.

Prenatal Education

Parenting begins before your baby is born.  To support you during your pregnancy, we offer three private one-hour classes free of charge to all women giving birth at LincolnHealth - Miles Campus.  A registered nurse from our Maternity Unit will review the physical and emotional changes of pregnancy, the development of your new baby, what to expect in the hospital, getting ready for your baby at home, and infant care and feeding.  Because these classes are private, teaching is flexible to the needs and interests of each woman.

Childbirth Classes - Labor, Birth and Beyond

Certified Childbirth Educators provide a series of classes about the experience of childbirth.  Topics such as signs of labor, positions for labor and delivery, Cesarean birth and infant care and feeding are covered.  The expectant mother and her coach will practice breathing and relaxation techniques for use during labor and birth.  Comfort measures including water therapy and medication are reviewed.  Each woman is encouraged to have a labor support person - husband, partner, family member or friend - who will take classes with her and support her through her labor and birth.  A tour of the Miles Maternity Unit is included.  Classes are two hours long and meet for three or four weeks.

Water Birth

Enjoy this opportunity to view our waterbirth video and discuss waterbirth with a registered nurse from our Maternity Unit.  This one-hour class includes a review of the history of water birth and a tour of our tub room.  We strongly recommended that women wishing to use the birthing pool for labor or birth take this class.
