Vance M. Brown, M.D. "comes home" to Maine and New England
(Portland, ME)  After an extensive national search, Bill Caron, President of MaineHealth announced the appointment of Vance M. Brown, MD as the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at MaineHealth.  Dr. Brown returns to Maine, having been born and raised near Waterville.

Bill Caron, president of MaineHealth said, "We're very pleased to have Dr. Brown join our team.  His experience and level of expertise and commitment to high quality health care delivery fits very well with our core mission - to ensure our communities are among the healthiest in America.  We're very glad to have someone of his stature in the MaineHealth family," he adds.

"I'm very excited and anxious to get to work," said Dr. Brown.  "MaineHealth is a leader in its system-wide clinical integration and community health improvement efforts, and I'm happy to have the chance to contribute to the system's further success.  I'm truly thrilled beyond belief," he adds.

The CMO for MaineHealth will be integrally involved in, and provide critical physician input, into system-wide efforts to improve community health.  The position will provide strategic clinical leadership for MaineHealth and form strong linkages between system member and affiliate organizations' leaders and physicians.  The CMO will represent the system internally and externally on matters of medical delivery, clinical advancement and integration, quality improvement and patient safety; developing and/or adopting best practices to adapt to the national and regional health care environment.

Dr. Brown completed his undergraduate degree in biological sciences from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California and then completed his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut.  He completed his postgraduate residency training at the University of North Carolina Hospitals where he achieved Chief Residency status in Family Medicine.  Dr. Brown also completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, and a residency in Internal Medicine from Yale-New Haven Medical Center in New Haven, CT.  Dr. Brown is board certified in Family Practice by the American Board of Family Practice; Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine; and by the American Board of Medical Examiners.

Dr. Brown fills the CMO position vacated by Robert McArtor, MD who announced his retirement earlier this year.  Dr. McArtor served in MaineHealth for a total of ten years with the final eight as Chief Medical Officer.  Dr. McArtor will continue to work with MaineHealth leadership on a part-time basis.
