Medical Advisories

MaineHealth’s home health agencies have issued a new advisory clarifying physician requirements for Face-to-Face encounters and regulations pertaining to eligibility for the home health benefit. Specifically, CMS has provided more definitive guidance on the “homebound” requirement by removing vague language and defining the criteria for what will now be considered as “confined to the home”. To learn more, we recommend that physician practices contact one of our member home health agencies that we have listed in the attached briefing.

Clinical Integration & MaineHealthLink Information

MaineHealth has taken a leadership role in developing programs to improve chronic illness care in Maine through its Clinical Integration programs. Clinical Integration is an effort to achieve a coordinated system of clinically appropriate and cost effective care in which care is provided in a coordinated way across the continuum of care; occurs in the most appropriate setting; involves caregivers from all disciplines; supports a collaborative practice among clinicians; and improves community health status.

Choosing Wisely

The Choosing Wisely Campaign was initiated by the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation in April of 2012. Since then over 50 medical specialty societies in the United States have developed lists of five items to assist physicians and patients in having conversations about smart and effective care; choosing care that is supported by evidence, not duplicative of other tests, free from harm and truly necessary.

The MMC Physician-Hospital Organization, with the support of MaineHealth, started this program in June 2013 to reach all of the hospitals and physicians in the system.
