Maine Artists Create The “Art of Caring”
Saco--For the fourth consecutive year, some of the finest artists in Southern Maine will contribute work to the Art of Caring Gala and Art Auction, a benefit for the patients of HomeHealth-Visiting Nurses of Southern Maine. The event, to be held on Friday, May 20th at the Black Point Inn, Scarborough, is an opportunity to enjoy fine food, bid on beautiful art and support home health care services in your community.
The evening begins with a champagne reception at 6 pm where you can meet the artists and view the art while enjoying a wide assortment of hors d’oeuvres. This year the event will include a silent auction featuring fine arts and crafts by local craftspeople. The silent auction will be followed by a live auction, hosted by auctioneer Ron Miller of Wicked Good Auctions. Last year, over 150 people attended the event, which raised more than $35,000.
The list of contributing artists reads like a “Who’s Who of Artists in Southern Maine.” Many artists participate in “The Art of Caring” gala each year because of a personal connection to our agency. Among the featured artists are Anne Gable Allaire, a pastel painter whose works are in corporate and private collections; Ed Betts, a nationally renowned master in watercolors whose work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago; Dewitt Hardy, a teacher, painter, actor and author whose work is in the British Museum, the Smithsonian, the Library of Congress, the Hirschorn Museum and the Portland Museum of Art; Ann Legg, winner of Best in Show at the 2004 Maine Watercolor Society awards; David Little, an oil painter who focuses on coastal and island scenes and is author of “Maine Boats and Harbors”; Nadine Schoepfle, an impressionist oil painter, whose work is in collections in the United States and Europe; Kevin Hawkes, a prize-winning illustrator and Wade Zahares, an illustrator who has received commissions from HBO, Cinemax, and Sesame Street Magazine.
Featured silent auction artists include renowned textile designer Angela Adams, Edith Armstrong of Folia Jewelry, and Monique Bousquet of Clay Art, who creates custom contemporary porcelain sculptures.
