Health Tip: Know Your Risk of Stress Fracture

Here's what increases your chances

(HealthDay News) -- Stress fractures are small breaks in a bone caused by overuse from exercise.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons says risk factors include:

  • Playing sports, including tennis and basketball.
  • Participating in athletic events, such as gymnastics and track and field.
  • Moving in a way that the foot repeatedly hits the ground.
  • Resting insufficiently between workouts.
  • Being female.
