(HealthDay News) -- You don't absolutely need a fancy gadget to help you get fit, but technology can make it more fun and help motivate you.

The American Council on Exercise mentions these examples:

  • Heart-rate monitors that sync with other devices and upload your stats to an app or website.
  • A smartphone app that acts as an online coach to offer feedback and suggestions during your workout.
  • Apps that monitor exercise duration and distance, calories burned, workouts and more.
  • Video games that encourage activity and help you have fun as you get moving.
