More About Our Labs

We offer laboratory outreach services to all area physicians, nursing facilities and clinics  to ensure timely specimen processing and result-reporting turnaround time.

For area physicians, this program provides up to three courier pick-ups per day for lab specimens that need processing with test results being available generally later that same day via a direct computer link to the hospital.

For area nursing facilities and clinics, the program dispatches a phlebotomist to the site to perform blood draws and returning them to our lab for processing. Results are available generally later that same day.

SMHC's full-service laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is an internationally-recognized program and the only one of its kind that utilizes teams of practicing laboratory professionals as inspectors. Designed to go well beyond regulatory compliance, the program helps laboratories achieve the highest standards of excellence to positively impact patient care.

In addition, the SMHC Laboratory's Blood Bank is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). Accreditation assures the public that SMHC Lab’s Blood Bank meets or exceeds national benchmarks for quality and safety. Accreditation follows an intensive on-site assessment by specially trained AABB assessors and establishes that the level of medical, technical and administrative performance within the facility meets or exceeds the standards set by the AABB. By successfully meeting those requirements every two years, SMHC remains in good standing with approximately 2,000 similar facilities across the United States and abroad that have earned AABB Accreditation.
