Stephens Community Healthcare Foundation Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting of the Stephens Community Healthcare Foundation was held on May 21, 2014. David Hoisington, Chairman of the Board, welcomed foundation members and recognized Stephens Memorial Hospital for the achievements earned in FY2013.
Timothy A. Churchill, President and CEO of Western Maine Health, provided key highlights of Western Maine Health’s FY 2013 including the achievement of being recognized as a 2013 Leapfrog Top Rural Hospital, the recruitment of several new physicians and the implementation of the Hospitalist Program led my Maine Medical Center, the improvement of the overall health in the Oxford County health rankings from 16th (2010) to 10th (2013), and the further development of the cancer program providing resources close to home.
William Medd, MD of Oxford Hills Internal Medicine discussed the growth of the cancer program at Stephens Memorial Hospital and the positive impact of having those resources locally in our community.
The keynote speaker was David Benton, MD, Oncologist/Hematologist from New England Cancer Specialists. Dr. Benton provided an informative presentation on “The New Oncology: The History of Oncology and How it’s Changed”. Dr. Benton shared his personal experience which led him to practice Oncology/Hematology and discussed how the treatment of cancer medicine has evolved.
Dr. David Benton earned his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine Residency training and Hematology/Oncology Fellowship training at Brown University School of Medicine. Dr. Benton is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Oncology and he is also certified in Palliative Care.
