Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening

The New Hampshire DHHS "Let No Women be Overlooked" program provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings to women who meet certain requirements. The screenings are offered at many health care sites throughout New Hampshire, including Memorial Hospital. Services include:

Screening services

  • Office visit
  • Clinical breast exam
  • Mammogram*
  • Pelvic exam
  • Pap test**

Diagnostic services

  • Diagnostic mammogram
  • Breast ultrasound
  • Surgical consultation
  • Aspiration of breast cyst
  • Breast biopsy
  • Stereotactic biopsy
  • Colposcopy

*Every 1-2 years for women ages 40 and older.
** Women age 21 to 64 years- screening with Pap test every 3 years or screening with Pap test and HPV test every 5 years for women age 30 to 64

The program does not pay for computer-aided detection (CAD). If you are enrolled in this program and receive a bill for these services, please call 603-356-5461 x2705.

Who qualifies for the program?

The program is for women age 21-64 who have no health insurance or have insurance that does not pay for screening tests. Cervical cancer screening is mainly for women who have never had a Pap test or have not had one in over 5 years. Mammography screening is mainly for women age 50 and over. If you meet the criteria, you will be eligible for:

Age 21-29:

  • Clinical breast exam (CBE)
  • Pelvic exam
  • Pap test
  • Mammogram only if lump found during CBE or breast self exam (BSE)

Age 30-39:

  • CBE
  • Pelvic exam
  • Pap tests with HPV test
  • Mammogram only if lump found during CBE or BSE

Age 40-64:

  • CBE
  • Pelvic exam
  • Pap test with HPV test
  • Mammogram

Age 65+:

  • No cervical cancer screenings for women older than 65 who have had adequate screening and are not at high risks.
  • Mammogram only if ineligible for Medicare or not enrolled in Medicare Part B

Insurance coverage eligibility:

  • No health insurance
  • Health insurance with a deductible
  • Ineligible for Medicare
  • Not enrolled in Medicare Part B
